My last blog post from Dec/Jan. said that I was hoping to have my album out by March or April. Well, it’s now April and I’m nowhere near finished. There are a few reasons for this, but no sense boring anyone with the (toddler related) details. I’ve been whittling away at the music and will continue to do so, hopefully for a summer (or fall) release.

I’m pretty happy with the direction the music is taking, it’s quite atmospheric and experimental.

So, it looks like it’ll be just one album this year (if I’m lucky!). In the meantime, here’s a new tune (not sure if this one will go on the next album):

With the new year a day away, I’ve been sorting through things that I’ve been putting off for ages. A new album is something I’ve been wanting to release for over a year now. Looking after our son has seriously sapped my energy for being creative in the evenings and weekends when I have the time to work on music. I’m figuring out ways to work now that are helping this dilemma. One way is by exercising regularly. It has significantly upped my energy and is obviously good for me, even though I’m not a big fan of exercise.

I’m hoping to have the new album out by March or April. It will be 8 songs of atmospheric guitar music. I’m calling it “Space Is Dotted With Fire”. It will most likely be a digital only release, mainly via the excellent Bandcamp. I’ll only get CD’s manufactured if there is enough demand for it (something I don’t see happening any time soon).

Along with the new album comes a decision (that nobody cares about but me) about what name I’m going to use for the release. I was going to use the name ‘Great Spiral’ for most of my future releases, but I’ve realized I want to use my own name. I’m going to save the Great Spiral name for any collaborations I might have with other musicians in the future.

I’m hoping this will be a productive period, and would like to release a second album later in the year. I’ve got plenty of material, so the only problem is getting it arranged and recorded.

So, onward to a new year and new music…

Ok, it’s been way too long since I’ve updated anything here. A new album is on the way and will be out in the next 3 to 4 months. Also, an update to this site and more info about the album is on the way. Back to recording. Happy Holidays everyone.
