An overview of my musical life goes something like this:
I started playing guitar at age 14 and have never stopped.
In the late 80’s I played in a progressive rock band with my brother. We released an EP on cassette and played gigs in Flint, Detroit, and Lansing, Michigan.
From the early 90’s I recorded with my brother in an on-again, off-again project called Undercurrent. We recorded experimental music with friends, and I also scored some student films for my friend Mark Evans.
In 1994 I moved to the UK and met my wife, Avril. I played in her band for a brief time.
During 1997 I got my first professional job as a composer. I scored the title music for a children’s education CD-Rom released by Granada Learning.
1998 was the year my brother and I recorded our first album as Undercurrent, ‘Open Spaces’. Engineer Steve Chahley (Neko Case, Nelly Furtado) recorded the drums at Sam’s Recording in Newcastle, England.
1999 saw us move to Seattle from Newcastle. Undercurrent gigged around the Pacific NW for about two years. Avril played bass, Anthony played drums, I played guitar and forgot lyrics. Undercurrent finally ended in 2002.
In 2000 my old friend Mark came out to Seattle from Michigan with contracts to get an Undercurrent song into the feature film his production company was making. Joe Estevez, brother of actor Martin Sheen, starred in the movie. The film was a murder-mystery called ‘Shattered Faith’.
2005 was the year of the Empty Boat, an acoustic folk trio I played in with guitarist/singer Trent Hill and singer Misty Weaver. We played some house concerts in Seattle, opening for the excellent bands Fishtank Ensemble from San Francisco, and Ensemble Sub Masa from Seattle.
Since then I have played solo acoustic gigs at house concerts and salons. We also hosted a couple of house concerts ourselves, including a great evening with Irish flute player Hanz Araki.
In 2008 I produced an album for singer-songwriter Misty Weaver, ‘Lost Saints for Long Roads’. I co-wrote most of the songs and went on to play guitar for Misty in her live act.
2009 saw the release of my solo album, Ghost Stations. It has been accepted into Pump Audio’s catalog for licensing to film and TV.
2010 was a good year. I became a composer for two music libraries and spent the majority of the year writing for them.
